Bed bug facts
Bed bugs are parasitic insects that feed exclusively on blood. The common bed bug prefers to feed on human blood although other species are specialized to other animals. Abundant populations can be seen especially nearby or inside of beds and bedding or other sleep areas, which is why it’s important to call an extermination company to perform an inspection when you first suspect activity. Bed bugs are mainly active at night, but are not exclusively nocturnal. However, bed bug treatment can be done anytime during the day. They usually feed on their hosts without being noticed, but it’s important to call us as soon as you believe you may be in need of service. A number of adverse health effects may result from bed bug bites, including skin rashes and allergic symptoms.
Detecting bed bugs
Are you suffering from itchy, red welts but don’t remember being bitten by a bug? You probably have a bed bug infestation. Bed bug bites usually start out painless, but they soon develop into irksome, itching bumps. Other signs of bed bugs include:
- Small red dots on bed linens and mattresses
- Brown/dark dots (eggs) on bed linens and mattresses
- Clusters of tiny dark stains
